Sport and Recreation Directorate

The Directorate provides sport and recreation facilities in communities. At present 44 sport complexes are completed.

It also support the following institutions financially:

1. Free State Sport Academy
2. NSC Free State
3. Women and Sport (WAS)
4. SASSU Free State

PHAKISA Events and Development Corporationn aims to facilitate the staging of major sport events in the Free State at the Phakisa Freeway in Welkom. The FIM Motor-cycle Grand Prix, staged at the Freeway on 10 October 1999 will become an annual event. For more information on Phakisa visit their website.
